SD Democratic Party Chair Responds to State of the Union

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 8, 2024

South Dakota Democratic Party Chair Shane Merrill released the following statement after President Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech.

“In just three years, the Biden-Harris administration has accomplished more for South Dakotans than many presidents have accomplished in two terms. The American Rescue Plan Act brought in $700 million to improve water and waste water systems in South Dakota that will help the state for generations to come. The Biden-Harris Administration is also investing millions of dollars into our airports, roads and bridges to bring in more tourism and grow our economy. The President is lowering costs for South Dakotans including Medicare negotiating the price of high-cost drugs for the first time. Thanks to a historic release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, gas prices are down more than $1.60 in South Dakota from their peak in the summer of 2022. President Biden is also helping our rural communities by increasing access to high-speed internet and preserving our lands.

“We stand with President Biden’s calls to protect our elections, defend access to reproductive healthcare, feed all of our children, pass comprehensive immigration reform, keep our military members safe and make higher education more affordable. South Dakotans understand the stakes in our upcoming election and know that the only way to keep building on all the progress we’ve made is reelecting President Biden and Vice President Harris to a second term in November.”
