Paid Canvassers 

The South Dakota Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign is seeking part-time paid Canvassers to start immediately to implement voter contact efforts. The Canvasser’s responsibilities will be to engage in door-to-door outreach. The SDDP provides paid training and transportation to and from turf; experience in canvassing or organizing is a plus. Must be able to work evenings and weekends. Position entails extended periods of walking and standing.

Qualifications:

  • Active or interest in becoming active in the SDDP and passionate about progressive values
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivation
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Basic computer skills are a plus

General Job Duties are as follows:

  • Door-to-door and phone conversations with voters about issues and candidates
  • Accurate reporting and database management
  • Help teammates to establish best practices
  • Bring issues to the attention of the Canvass Director
  • Other duties as assigned

Compensation: $12.00 per hour. Hours range from 20-35 hours a week.

Paid Canvass Director

The South Dakota Democratic Party is seeking enthusiastic, hard-working, and highly motivated individuals to work to elect Democrats statewide in 2018. The 2018 SDDP Coordinated Campaign will seek to elect Democrats by engaging party activists, drop-off voters, and new voters with a focus on historically marginalized communities.

The Canvass Director is responsible for managing a paid canvass team. The position is through the SDDP Coordinated Campaign and reports to the Field Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Active in the SDDP and passionate about progressive values
  • Multiple campaign cycles experience preferred
  • Reliable transportation and cell phone
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly dedicated and detail oriented
  • Willingness to work long hours

Job Duties:

The Canvass Director will oversee a paid canvass team which will engage voters on legislative issues in support of Democratic candidates. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage canvassers
  • Set daily and weekly direct voter contact goals for staff and ensure accountability
  • Monitor overall voter contact progress
  • Provide ongoing training and development to staff
  • Handle transportation, data, and technology logistics
  • Submit regular reports to supervisor as well as identify and escalate important issues

Target Start Date: ASAP

Compensation: Compensation is $3,000/month. Position is through November 9th.

Field Organizer: Multiple Positions Available

Job Desciption:

South Dakota Democratic Party Field Organizers will be responsible for active voter education and field efforts around the areas and towns listed below. The information gathered and the organizational networks created by Field Organizers will be instrumental for candidate success and Get Out The Vote efforts in 2018 and beyond.

Field Organizers will be employed for 25 hours/week at $1,200 a month (paid bi-weekly), up until November 7th, 2018 at the following locations:

1 Field Organizer for Sioux Falls – Full Time

1 Field Organizer for Rapid City

1 Field Organizer for Vermillion

1 Field Organizer for Cheyenne River

1 Field Organizer for Watertown

1 Field Organizer for Sisseton — 15 hours/week

Job Requirements:

  • Develop a professional working relationship with Democratic community members and leaders
  • Work with the South Dakota Democratic Party Field Director on a daily basis
  • Coordinate and recruit for block walks, phone banking events, voter registration drives, etc.
  • Work a minimum of 15hrs/wk between the hours of 4:00–9:00 p.m. Sunday to Thursday
  • Organizers will be regularly scheduled on weekends.
  • Represent the South Dakota Democratic Party in a professional manner
  • Support Statewide and Legislative Democratic candidates
  • Travel when needed for meetings, events, etc. Mileage reimbursement will be provided.

  • Eagle Butte, SD – Weekdays starting 9/21
  • Corson County, SD – Weekdays starting 9/21
  • Lake Andes, SD – Weekdays starting 9/21
