Chair’s Note: We’re facing another battle over adequate access to early voting for Indian Country in South Dakota. Tribe members in three South Dakota counties – Buffalo, Jackson and Dewey – must travel 50 miles or more to get to their nearest early vote center. The counties can’t afford satellite operations but millions of federal dollars from the Help America Vote Act of 2002 are available. We hope the South Dakota Board of Elections decides to use these funds to make sure all South Dakotans have equal access to vote.
