Sioux Falls, SD — South Dakota Democratic Party National Committeewoman Deb Knecht issued the following statement after it was announced that Republican Sen. John Thune won the election for Senate Majority Leader.
“I want to congratulate Sen. Thune for winning the secret vote for Senate Majority Leader. This will be good for South Dakota to have one of our Senators in such a high ranking leadership role,” said National Committeewoman Deb Knecht. “However, we already had this level of leadership 20 years ago with former Democratic Sen. Tom Daschle before Thune ousted him. Daschle faithfully served as the Minority and Majority Senate Leader for many years while still bringing South Dakota’s issues to Washington D.C. My hope is that Sen. Thune will reject partisan politics that get in the way of representing South Dakotans. His votes against the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act, all of which are benefitting South Dakotans, shows that he isn’t putting our best interests first. We need leadership that will stand up for what’s right and put people over politics.” |
