The SDDP Responds to Bollen Plea Deal

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Democratic Party released the following statement in response to the terms of the extremely lenient plea deal revealed today between Attorney General Marty Jackley and Joop Bollen, part of the ongoing fallout from the state’s EB-5 scandal:

“It is no surprise, after years long delay in bringing charges again Joop Bollen in the EB-5 scandal, that Attorney General Marty Jackley let Bollen off with a lenient plea deal that only required Bollen to plead guilty to one of five charges. Bollen misused hundreds of thousands of South Dakota taxpayer dollars and Jackley’s agreement with Bollen means Bollen will not spend a day in jail for his involvement with EB-5. Another troubling result of the plea deal is that the public will now get less information about the EB-5 scandal because no trial will take place to expose the facts of the corruption.”
