South Dakota Democrats Celebrate McGovern Day
Sioux Falls, SD (May 2, 2016)-
The South Dakota Democratic Party celebrated the legacy of Senator George McGovern Saturday, April 30 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
Events began at 12:00 PM with a legislative candidate luncheon where Democratic Party service awards were presented to Dustina Gill of Sisseton for the George McGovern Grassroots Award, Burt Elliot of Aberdeen for the Goldie Wells Award and Rachelle Norberg of Burke for the Richard F. Kneip Award.
Afternoon activities included a training session from Vanna Cure of the Democratic National Committee as well as meetings of the South Dakota College Democrats, South Dakota High School Democrats and Young Democrats Association.
The evening presentation began with remarks from U.S. House candidate Paula Hawks and U.S. Senate candidateJay Williams and concluded with guest speakers from both Democratic presidential campaigns. Representing the Clinton campaign was U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan (D-Ohio). Representing the Sanders campaign was comedian and actress Charlene Yi.
