SDDP Responds to SD GOP’s Involvement in Continued Misleading Education Funding Ads
SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota Democratic Party Executive Director Suzanne Jones Pranger issued the following statement today in response to the South Dakota Republican Party’s involvement in the misleading advertisements and direct mail pieces that have continued to be utilized by Republican candidates for state legislature who voted against HB 1182 but are now attempting to take credit for voting to increase teacher pay.
“More Republican legislators who voted against funding increased salaries for South Dakota’s educators are attempting to severely mislead the voters of their district. Even more concerning, it is now clear these false ads being utilized across the state by Republican candidates that opposed the Governor’s education funding plan are condoned by the State Republican Party who is paying to send these misleading mailings. The Republican Party’s involvement in this effort to hide their candidates’ true records on education further illustrates the lack of accountability and transparency within the Republican Party, plagued by scandals like EB-5 and GEAR-UP.”
“Any Republican who voted against HB 1182 did not vote to increase teacher pay because they opposed the only viable funding mechanism. The record is clear: Kris Langer, Arch Beal, John Wiik, Isaac Latterell, Jenna Haggar, Phil Jensen, Don Haggar, Steve Haugaard, Leslie Heinemann, Roger Hunt, Elizabeth May, Lee Qualm, Jim Stalzer, and other Republican legislators voted against increasing South Dakota’s last-in-the-nation teacher pay.”
Examples of misleading direct mail pieces paid for by the South Dakota Republican Party are included below.
