SDDP Names Scholarship Contest Winner

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Democratic Party (SDDP) has awarded Caitlin McGregor of McCook Central High School in Salem, South Dakota a $1,000 scholarship for her essay entitled “Improving Ethics in South Dakota Government.” Her essay was judged best of the 25 entries submitted by high school seniors in South Dakota in the SDDP’s first-ever scholarship essay competition.
“The South Dakota Democratic Party is pleased to award this scholarship to Caitlin for her insightful essay on the important issue of improving ethics in state government,” said SDDP Chair Ann Tornberg. “We hope that Caitlin continues her interest in politics, and that our scholarship competition continues to grow each year.”

McGregor is a senior at McCook Central High School. She was a Senate Page during this year’s Legislative Session and attended Girls State last summer. She is the editor of her school’s newspaper, the vice president of the McCook Central FFA chapter, and the drum major of her school’s marching band. She is also involved in cross country, choir, band, one-act, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and National Honors Society. Next year she will begin her studies at South Dakota State University, pursuing a major in biochemistry.
