House Republicans delay teacher pay vote again

Sioux Falls, SD (February 16, 2016)-

South Dakota Democrats expressed their disappointment with the second postponement of HB 1182, the 1/2 penny sales tax increase designed to increase teacher pay.

“Despite support from education associations, business groups, experts in education and the public, House Republicans will not allow a vote on teacher pay,” said South Dakota Communications Director Michael Ewald. “It casts a spotlight on the utter dysfunction of Pierre politics.”

House procedural rules allow for only two postponements on a single piece of legislation. HB 1182 will be back on the House floor Thursday.
