General Beadle School Based Community Health Clinic will get a couple of new exam rooms thanks to a federal grant of $112,915 from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
U.S. Senator Tim Johnson, D-S.D., announced the grant this week.
The clinic, at General Beadle Elementary School in Rapid City, provides general and dental care to students and community members, said Tim Trithart, chief executive of Community Health of the Black Hills. In 2010, the clinic treated 3,500 patients.
The funding will allow for the addition of additional exam rooms — there are currently two — and upgrade dental equipment. The grant will also allow the clinic to begin its transfer to electronic medical records, Trithart said.
The City of Sioux Falls Health Department also received a grant of $500,000 to establish a school-based clinic at Hayward Elementary.
