Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman to Speak at SDDP Rushmore Round-Up Banquet
The South Dakota Democratic Party today announced Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman will speak at its second annual Rushmore Round-Up Banquet Dinner, set to begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 at the Ramkota Convention Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
“We are excited to welcome Secretary Glickman to South Dakota for the Democratic Party Rushmore Round-Up. The Secretary will be speaking on behalf of Secretary Hillary Clinton and Senator Tim Kaine’s bid for the White House, focusing on why they are the best choice for South Dakota and all of rural America,” said SDDP Executive Director Suzanne Jones Pranger. “Secretary Clinton is working to win the vote of every American, including those right here in South Dakota. The Clinton campaign has paid staff in our state and has been campaigning at numerous events in South Dakota, including Rushmore Round-Up and a visit from former President Bill Clinton. With a candidate as unpredictable and unfit for office as Donald Trump, Republicans cannot afford to take any state for granted.”
U.S. Senate candidate Jay Williams, South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioner Candidate Henry Red Cloud, and Dr. Cheryl Crazy Bull, President and CEO of the American Indian College Fund, will also speak at the dinner.
Glickman served as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from 1995 to 2001. Before being appointed to the position by President Bill Clinton, he represented the 4th Congressional district of Kansas for 18 years in the U.S. House of Representatives where he was very involved in federal farm policy on the House Agriculture Committee. He also served on the House Judiciary Committee and as chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Glickman is currently Vice President of the Aspen Institute and Executive Director of The Aspen Institute Congressional Program. He also serves as a Senior Fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center where he is co-chair of its Democracy Project. He was recently appointed by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack as Chair of the newly created Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research.
In addition, Glickman is the former chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. and former director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
