Erik Muckey Announces Candidacy for District 15 State House

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Today, Erik Muckey announced his candidacy for District 15 State House at the Siouxland Downtown Library.

Erik released the following statement:

“With the support of my family, friends, colleagues, and mentors, I am excited to announce my candidacy for the South Dakota House of Representatives, serving District 15.

“It has been a tremendous honor to learn from outgoing District 15 leaders, Rep. Linda Duba and Sen. Reynold Nesiba, and I thank them for their commitment, leadership, and accomplishments in the South Dakota Legislature. Our state is stronger because of their service.

“I look forward to joining Rep. Kadyn Wittman and former House Minority Leader Jamie Smith on the ballot in November 2024. Together, we can continue to provide District 15 with effective, respected representation in the South Dakota Legislature.”

About Erik:

Erik Muckey serves as the CEO of Lost&Found, the region’s largest youth and young adult-focused (ages 10-34) suicide prevention and postvention nonprofit. Over the past 13 years, Erik has served in nearly every role for the organization and currently leads a team of more than 15 staff spread throughout South Dakota and the surrounding region. Lost&Found annually reaches hundreds of thousands of people through its digital mental health and suicide prevention education, as well as training hundreds of community leaders and providing top notch evaluation and research services for mental health programs. Erik was one of the five co-founders who launched Lost&Found at age 18.

A sixth-generation South Dakotan, Erik was raised in Corsica, SD and has called Sioux Falls home for 5 years. The son of rural educators, Erik carries a deeply-rooted passion for public service and policy, and he is an accomplished leader in the nonprofit sector in our region. Professionally, Erik has worked in virtually every sector possible, starting his career in project management and strategy roles at Citi, MetaBank, and Sunrise Banks, while leading and advising several nonprofit organizations in South Dakota and Minnesota. He is a graduate of the University of South Dakota (BBA, Economics, 2014), as well as the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management (Master of Business Administration, 2020) and Humphrey School of Public Affairs (Master of Public Policy, 2020). Erik is the founder and CEO of PASQ, a rural development and nonprofit consulting firm and has previously served as an Adjunct Instructor for the University of South Dakota’s Beacom School of Business.

Erik entered politics more than a decade ago through service as SGA President at the University of South Dakota and a brief stint working for the US Senate Banking Committee staff while Sen. Tim Johnson served as Chairman. Over the past two years, Erik has served as the Chairman of the Minnehaha County Democratic Party, leading efforts to rebuild the party at the grassroots level to serve the needs of all Minnehaha County residents.

Erik and his fiancée, Sadie, call downtown Sioux Falls home and look forward to this next opportunity to serve the community.
