Dems: GOP Chair Pamela Roberts Wrong Pick for Board of Regents

Sioux Falls, SD (March 24, 2016)-

The South Dakota Democratic Party expressed its disapproval at the appointment of South Dakota Republican Party Chair Pamela Roberts to the Board of Regents.

“It proves no lessons have been learned. Appointing a partisan political operative to a Board governing millions of dollars in higher education money doesn’t restore confidence in state government. Considering the recent lapses in state government administration from Republican officials, we think there could have been a pick more sensitive to the public’s concern for independent and non-partisan oversight of state-run institutions,” said Michael Ewald, South Dakota Democratic Party Communications Director.

According the Board of Regents’ website, it is tasked with the, “constitutional authority to govern the system of public higher education in the State of South Dakota.  Supported by an Executive Director and staff, the Board provides leadership and sets policies for the programs and services delivered through its six universities and two special schools.”
