SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Democratic Party released the following statement from State Chair Ann Tornberg responding to State Sen. Billie Sutton declaring his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Governor:

“On behalf of the South Dakota Democratic Party, I would like to welcome Sen. Sutton to the race for Governor. He has been a great champion for working families as a State Senator, including serving as the State Senate Democratic Leader for the past several years, and we wish him the best of luck. For far too long, the Republican majority in Pierre has shown no interest in helping the working families of our state get ahead, or in listening to the will of the voters on campaign finance and government ethics reform. Due to the awful record of the Republican establishment in Pierre, the people of our state are ready for a positive change. South Dakota Democrats have many great potential candidates for statewide office, including governor. We look forward to announcements from others in the months to come.”
