Democrats Respond to Republicans Denying Sick Leave to the Working People of South Dakota
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Democratic Party released the following statement in response to Republicans in the Senate State Affairs Committee killing Senate Bill 96 today on a party-line vote, denying a guarantee of paid sick leave to the working people of South Dakota:
“Senate Bill 96 would have been a huge boost for the estimated 48% of South Dakotans working in the private sector who do not have access to paid sick days. Further, both adults work in over 61% of families in our state, which means that parents in those families without paid sick time must lose income and risk losing their jobs when a child is ill or needs medical care. While South Dakota Democrats are doing everything we can to help the working families in our state get ahead, the Republican majority in Pierre is doing everything they can to stop us. South Dakotans will remember who is on their side in 2018.”
