Chair’s Note: Several years ago the legislature created a boxing commission so that boxing and MMA fights would be regulated. The previous and current Governors both refused to appoint commissioners. Last year a young athlete in Rapid City died during a MMA fight. If a commission had been in place he would never have been allowed to fight in the first place. Last week the legislature had some very harsh words for the Governor and his inaction. They passed a new commission where the legislature appoints the commissioners because the Governor cannot be trusted to do it.
