Chairman’s Note: In Governor Daugaard’s budget address, he said he recommended rejecting an expansion of Medicaid in South Dakota under the Affordable Care Act. Since his statements urging lawmakers to refuse the expansion, several other Republican governors have come forward supporting the expansion of Medicaid in their states. North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple has come forward in support of the initiative. Perhaps most notably, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, a tough critic of President Obama, has come out in support of expansion in her state. We hope that as more Republican governors see the benefits of expansion, Governor Daugaard will support the expansion and help provide health care to more South Dakotans.
