SDDP Executive Director Responds to Failure of Latest Senate GOP Healthcare Repeal Bill

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Democratic Party released the following statement from Executive Director Sam Parkinson responding to today’s news that the latest attempt by Republicans to take healthcare away from millions of Americans has failed:

“Instead of listening to the people they represent, congressional Republicans tried yet again to take health care away from millions of families. This cruel bill should have never been proposed, let alone come close to a vote. Thanks to countless calls, emails, and letters from ordinary Americans, Republicans have been unable to accomplish their disastrous agenda. While we are relieved that this disastrous bill attacking the health and economic stability of South Dakota families has been defeated, we are disappointed that Senators John Thune and Mike Rounds yet again supported a bill which would have taken health care away from South Dakotans and raised their premiums.

“After seven years of failure to develop an alternative to the Affordable Care Act that does not take away healthcare from tens of millions of Americans and cause premiums to skyrocket – especially for elderly Americans – it is long past time John Thune, Mike Rounds, and the other Republicans in Congress to stop playing games with people’s lives and start working with Democrats to ensure that affordable health care is a right for all.”
