SD Democratic Party Mourns the Loss of Former Sen. Tim Johnson

October 9th, 2024The South Dakota Democratic Party is heartbroken by the loss of former Senator Tim Johnson. Senator Johnson was a true public servant, listening to the concerns of his constituents and working across the aisle to find solutions.
Senator Johnson leaves behind a legacy of improving infrastructure, especially when it came to providing clean, dependable sources of water. That includes the Lewis and Clark Rural Water System which will deliver reliable water to hundreds of thousands of people in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. He helped keep Ellsworth Air Force Base open when the BRAC commission targeted it for closure. Senator Johnson secured funding for Tribal Nations for housing, education, schools, medical care and infrastructure. He also lead the effort for “Country of Origin” labeling of meat and other agriculture products.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Senator Tim Johnson,” said District 10 Rep. Erin Healy, who worked for Sen. Johnson for nearly two years in Washington D.C. as a Legislative Correspondent. “He was a dedicated public servant who tirelessly represented South Dakota for nearly three decades in both state and federal government. His steadfast commitment to the people of our state and his unwavering integrity were the hallmarks of his career. Whether it was fighting for farmers, veterans, or supporting critical infrastructure projects, Tim Johnson’s leadership left a lasting impact on countless lives. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of South Dakotans to serve with the same humility and resolve. My heartfelt condolences go out to Barb, his family, and loved ones during this difficult time.”
